"As an artist, I have an urgent need to create throughout the day. I can hear anything that's repetitive and turn it to a beat in my mind, and that's all she wrote. I've always had this urge to learn more of what I love. It's almost like it was a gift from above because I use the arts to keep myself busy; I'm never bored and I'm never exhausted when I put my heart into what I love to do. I love the idea of creating something and letting others listen, desperately waiting for their feedback. I would walk the streets and hand out flyers, sell cd's, get a few live performances under the belt to get the word out, and do the best I can with whatever time I had to perfect my craft. That said, times have changed drastically from way back when.

People's taste in music (specifically, Hip Hop) has gone in a direction I did not foresee. A lot of people listen to rap, but few understand the origin of it all. Then a smaller fraction of those appreciate it. My product may not be what the masses lean towards, but it is still my product. It's original, it's fresh, organic... it's from the heart. What better way to earn gratification from my own creation than to share it with the world? "Well," I said to my still-stuck-in-the-handing-out-flyers-and-pedaling-days self, "why don't you look into getting a website designed?", so the idea was implanted. It was a very 'sensitive' time because I hadn't worked on a major product in years, and I wanted to hit the ground running with whatever I came up with.

Round 1: Design. I started to brainstorm on what I wanted my website to look like. I checked out multiple sites, that were similar to what I wanted (feature wise) and took notes about the layout and how it would pertain to what I wanted to do. This ranged from tabs, titles, colors, everything I could come up with. The notes were plentiful and very thorough. "If someone else can have a site like this, then so can I", I thought to myself. Skepticism set in every once in a while, because just because you see something in your mind one way doesn't mean another human being will be able to see it the same way. "Ugggh!", but I still continued with my notes.

Round 2: Look up web designing companies and web designers. This is where things got pretty tricky. I spent too much time in this arena. As a human being who sacrificed a lot to be at his best, I want nothing but the best in return. There's no bargaining there! I learned years ago, and even today, to not settle for less in any aspect of life. This has trickled down to having a site designed. I checked out multiple sites that could provide hosting, templates, and all I would have to do is pay a small fee every year or so. "Meeeh..." I thought. "Someone could be out there and have THE same exact website (layout) as me; that's not very original, Wolf." So, I continued my search and made more notes. During this process, and learning (kind of) the ballpark figure where I'd be as far as how much it would cost, I decided I'd have a custom website built from the ground up.

A website?! I was super excited! I was aware that I could have a site designed, but I didn't really know many local people I could trust with completing such a task. I became anxious that web designers would be like lawyers... you don't get much time with them without chucking out your life savings for (just) a few minutes. I had thoughts like 'Will they just push my case to the side and not take it seriously like the big ballers with endless/deep pockets?' or 'How will I know if they're charging me a reasonable fee?', so I figured I'd check with an old buddy of mine from high school that I just knew had awesome skills. I bumped into him at a grocery store a few days later. "I can do anything with a computer!" he says. I later got a link from him, checked out his website, and it was 'under construction'... and looked very messy. I had done my research prior and learned that one thing you had to ask a web designer for, was references, just to make sure they had done more than gotten their feet wet. Since he designed sites on the side, he had none that he could supply... not at the moment, at least. "Okay. Thanks for your time!" I said. Keep on moving; far away from my buddy, in this case! You get what you pay for, and I definitely, did not want to cut corners here. This was a dream of mine, and it had to be brought to life how I envisioned it.

May 31, 2015. What a beautiful Sunday that was. I put in more work to come to a conclusion with things. After some research, I learned that it's important to have your web designer within arm's reach; as in able to drive to an office for a face-to-face consult for a more personal touch. Plus, it's always cool to support local businesses. That day, I narrowed my search down to two local web designers here in town. Royco was one of them. At that point, I can't say what made me choose Royco over the other company. Since I hadn't spoken to anyone there, it was a leap of faith. But I did look through Royco's catalog, and man? When I say I was IMPRESSED? I was absolutely blown away! I saw every single kind of website in their catalog! GOODNESS, GRACIOUS! And the people that owned the sites looked just like me... regular and not deep pocketed! Well, there goes my need to ask for references! All of the sites they designed through the years were up and running for all to see. Goodness! I took tons of time going through that catalog. I'd never seen anything like it before. The reviews were out of this world. No one had anything negative to say. Then when I saw a site that was for musical artists like me? That was it... I was sold.  The company was closed that day, so I just sent a message to make contact. A lot of companies will never even respond. It's tricky when you're taking chances and have to rely on other people. But lo and behold... I got a reply within a short period of time! "Ewwww... this is so exciting!!!" I thought to myself. "We're about to get the ball rolling!", and that's exactly what we did.

Round 3: The meeting. Within the next few days, I had my initial conversation with Mr. LeRoy Mardenborough. You can learn a bit about people just from their mannerisms, even on the telephone. The man was very neutral with his conversation, so I knew I could work with him and not have to worry about being uncomfortable or pushed around. We set a meeting date and time, and that was the first time I got to meet LeRoy. Or was it? When we started speaking, I realized that we went to school together!! I recalled the man was a wizard and they always called on him to work out internet kinks and set up all kinds of technological things I knew nothing of! That made me feel even better. When we got down to discussing business and what I wanted for my site, he took time to make sure he understood what I was asking for. We went through all my raggedy notes, he made notes of his own, made a copy of mine, the whole nine yards. He told me that he'd work on his part and informed me what else I needed to come up with on my end. It was a lot of work, but I was ready to face it.

Round 4: RumbleRoomRecords.com. "Daggone it!" I had my work cut out for me, but such is the tale when you want things to be done to perfection. I went back to face my assignments. More ideas started pouring out in the process. Things took a bit longer on my end, but I did get it all done. I was behind schedule, but LeRoy was always cool. He even reached out to me a few times to make sure things were good on my end and that I was completing what we discussed. Truth be told, the man is so brilliant with web designing, he could've completed everything in two weeks, with other projects in the pipeline. But I slacked and didn't get things to him in a timely fashion. Oops! But he never rushed me or made any demands; ever the patient, humble and kind-hearted man, Royco earned my trust and business. Plain and simple!

LeRoy showed me the site for the first time. I was in awe, and he was so elated that I was. The man knows his stuff. As an artist, I realized and appreciated the time and effort that goes into what he does. He's very passionate about what he does, and it shows in his craft. He went into the body of the website and the coding was so wild! It looked like something a rocket scientist wouldn't understand. I let him know that many times, but he was humble about it and said 'anyone could do it'. Okay. Count me out!! LOL!

After more face-to-face meetings and teleconferences, we had everything in place for the launch of my website. We went through whatever problem areas and kinks we had, making additions to the site, working out this and that (who would've known that HostGator would be a better host for the type of site I had over GoDaddy? Who knows stuff like that??), and next thing you know, the site was up and running on September 26, 2015. LeRoy took as much time as necessary to get me acclimated with my website. I asked him many times to explain (even the same) things he already had prior, and he never made me feel... not smart. He was patient and made me understand. He knew questions I'd ask even before I asked them. He made sure to go through everything and I respect that the most. He explained how the site would appear on computers/laptops vs. smart phones, and how the music would be downloaded on either medium. He went above and beyond the call of duty, and his fees were very reasonable for the amount of time he put into designing my site. He even designed and created some business cards with the same exact theme! It's like my website in your pocket! LOL! It was a very hands-on, busy-but-awesome experience, and I learned a lot in the process.

Years later, I'm still satisfied with the end result and just go to my site for the heck of it at times like "Wow!" It's still relevant, it's easy to access on the world wide web, and it's available for the entire world to see. It's cut my pedaling time down to (virtually) none. If I ever want to make an addition to the site, Royco is there to make it happen. If I've ever discovered anything (technical) that may require attention on the site, I've notified Royco and it's resolved in an instant. Anytime I speak to him, it's like no catching up is needed; he's always the same and never complains about 'getting it done'. People like that are not easy to come across.

My site, man. It's just the best to me! I wouldn't trade it for anything because it's like a dream (my music, videos, blogs) within a dream (the website itself). It's so important to me to do the best you can while you're here, and Royco helped me share my vision, philosophy and heart with the whole world; for that, I'm forever grateful.
